A Sincere Call for America to Come Back to God

09/21/22

John Adams, the second president of the United States of America, in a letter to Thomas Jefferson dated October 11, 1798 wrote, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” And in another letter to Jefferson, he wrote, “Have you ever found in history, one single example of a nation thoroughly corrupted that was afterwards restored to virtue? … And without virtue, there can be no political liberty.” And I might add that no other liberties will survive. Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of peaceful assembly will all be lost. Lawlessness and immorality brings its own kind of civil bondage.

But President Adams was not the first one to write such a warning. Hundreds of years before him Solomon wrote, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” Righteousness and morality are revelations of a righteous God. Right and wrong have already been determined by the God who created us. Even Thomas Jefferson agreed. He wrote in a letter to Henry Fry, dated June 17, 1804, “I consider the doctrines of Jesus as delivered by himself to contain the outlines of the sublimest system of morality that has ever been taught.”   And as recently as 1952 Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas  in the case of Zorach v. Clauson wrote, “We are a religious people and our institutions presuppose a Supreme Being …” Belief in the Almighty and the laws of morality He has revealed are absolutely essential to a free democracy.

Our nation has strayed away from God. Abortion, sexual perversion and immorality along with horrific violence has been the result. We have come to the point where “we call evil good and good evil.” I need not elaborate on this point. We have already seen it on the daily news. But when these things became so prevalent in previous nations God’s Judgment was not far behind. AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHY AMERICA NEEDS TO GET RIGHT WITH GOD NOW. But it begins with each individual person. Every man and woman needs to decide that they are going to serve God, regardless of who else does. Will you make that decision? Will you decide it is time to take a stand for what is right and what is moral? Will you come back to God?

We at Pine Creek Valley Christian Church have made that decision. We intentionally choose to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. It is not only a choice between right and wrong, but also a choice between life and death. Don’t give up on God. He hasn’t given up on you. Come and join us in worshipping the God who loves us, not willing that any should perish.
