Fellowship With God

Have you ever considered what it truly means to be a disciple? Many believe that being a disciple is merely following something. You can say, for example, most pop culture influencers have followings that label themselves with different names. We have KatyCats, Mixers, Little Monsters, Sheerios, Beliebers, and of course you can’t forget the Swifties.

It's easy to begin to identify ourselves with those that we follow, and as we follow that person what they say and how they act begin to influence how we live our lives. Hence why they are called “Influencers”. But what about Christians? What does this really mean? Does it mean we like Jesus and the moral values he taught?

Being a Christian is more than a following. Being a Christian is about fellowship. Having a personal relationship with Christ. You most likely will never receive that from any of these influencers of the world. With Christ, however, we have fellowship with God himself. However fellowship requires discipleship, and there are 3 key features to being a disciple.

Mark 1:17 says, “17 Follow me,” Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for, people.” Being a disciple means we first follow Jesus, second we are changed by Jesus, and third we are committed to the mission of Jesus. It’s not an eassy calling to follow Jesus, in fact we are told that when we follow him we will be rejected by the world. It’s not easy to be changed by Jesus that means changing the way we live, often times from comfortable to uncomfortable. And it’s not easy to commit, because that means we are willing to sacrifice for Christ’.

However 1 John 2:6 reminds us that if we want to have fellowship with Christ, we must walk as he walked. And if we desire to spend eternity with him, then we must have fellowship with him. Are you truly a disciple in fellowship with Christ?
